Utilities > Categories

Categories facilitates the organisation of content within a website.

Categories help group your content according to topic or purpose. Articles, links, content pages, products and more can all be added to one or more categories.

A category may relate to how the content displays in menus, filters, it may also change the styling of the content depending on your project.

Create a Category

Utilities > Categories > Create Category

  1. Enter a name for the category. Depending on the use of categories within your site this may be publicly visible. Avoid duplicate names where possible.
  2. Enter a description (optional) for the category.
  3. Choose a logo for the category (optional). This is an image from the asset library. Click on the image to open the file picker. Search for an image, or navigate folders, or upload an image to use.
  4. Select a colour for the category. Click to choose a colour with the colour palette or enter a hexadecimal code. Depending on the application of categories for your site, this colour may be publicly visible
  5. Set show date to on if the category contains content such as news articles and press releases with dates.
  6. Set show in menu to on if the category will be used to populate menus on the site.

Edit a Category

Utilities > Categories > Click on Category Name

Clicking on a category name will open the category editor. The same fields are available to edit as when the category was created, but also includes:

  • Culture - used by multilingual websites
  • Enabled/Disabled - allows the deactivation of a category

Click confirm to save changes.

Organising Categories

Utilities > Categories

Once two or more categories are created, it is possible to arrange categories.

  • Click and drag categories vertically to change the order
  • Click and drag categories horizontally within a list to nest categories beneath other categories

Whenever a + (plus) symbol appears beside a category, there are other categories nested beneath it. Click to expand the list, and click the - (minus) symbol to close it again.

To save the order of categories click save filter tree.

Disable/Enable Categories

If a category has been disabled it will not appear in the active category list. To reveal these click show disabled.
